In the second half of 2011 I participated in the Clipper Round the World race; the only circumnavigating regatta open to amateur sailors. It was a unique experience!
There were some major challenges; gales with winds over 60 knots, waves over 30 feet high, broken equipment, bad nights of sleep, however the camaraderie and the excitement more than compensated. Sailing around the world is one of the last great adventures left in the modern world!

- Southampton, Southern England (Start: Jul 31) - Funchal, Madeira Island - Rio de Janeiro.
- Rio de Janeiro - Cape Town.
- Cape Town - Geraldton, West coast of Australia.
- Geraldton - New Zealand - Gold Coast, East coast of Australia.
